It won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1998 and Best Revival in 2023. Praised for its courageous storytelling and nuanced exploration of complex social issues, “Parade” remains a powerful and poignant examination of a dark chapter in history.

Meet the Production Team

Johnny Peek

Director

Johnny (he/him) has worked as a performer, producer, director, and educator for over 25 years, with professional credits in more than 80 productions across theatre, musical theatre, opera, and oratorio, as well as commercial and concert work. Widely regarded as one of Australia’s leading singing and musical theatre performance teachers, he recently returned from three years in the UAE, where he helped establish a global musical theatre degree. Prior to that, he spent a decade as a founding teacher at Griffith University’s Queensland Conservatorium Musical Theatre program.

Directing credits include acclaimed productions of Rent, Sweeney Todd, The Magic Flute, An Opera Odyssey, The Callback, and The Merry Widow, as well as numerous university works. He co-wrote, directed, and produced the 2013 opening ceremony for the International Convention of Voice Teachers, following his staging of The Last Five Years. In 2015, he received Matilda Award nominations for Best Production and Best Director for Slammed at QPAC.

Johnny’s students have featured in major Australian musical theatre tours including Les Misérables, The Book of Mormon, Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, Frozen, Wicked, Chicago, Six, and Mamma Mia. His recent work includes vocal coaching and production education for the new musical Straight From The Strait.

Now based in Cleveland with his family, Johnny is excited to collaborate with local artists while continuing his international projects.

Michael’s (he/him) musical education spans the Australian National University’s School of Music, Queensland Conservatorium, and the University of British Columbia. He also trained in Symphony Australia’s Conductor Development Program under Christopher Seaman and Johannes Fritzsch, working with the Auckland Philharmonia and Tasmanian Symphony. Michael received the European Music Academy’s President’s Award, conducting the North Czech Philharmonic in Prague.

His diverse theatre conducting credits include productions of Puccini’s Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi, Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortilèges, Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress, and Sondheim’s A Little Night Music. As a regular guest conductor with the Brisbane Philharmonic, Michael was scheduled to lead a production of Sondheim on Sondheim for Stephen Sondheim’s 90th birthday at QPAC in March 2020.

 

Michael has served as Music Director for Opera Queensland’s Open Stages, Queensland Musical Theatre’s production of Cats, and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. He is currently the Music Director for A Night at the Musicals and the new Australian musical Li’l Elvis and the Truckstoppers.

Maureen Bowra

Maureen (she/her) is an iconic Brisbane creative with an extensive array of shows to her name. Beginning her career as a performer, she had the pleasure of shaking her tail feather in numerous musicals at QPAC alongside Australian theatre legends such as Jon English, Simon Gallaher, Ian Stenlake, Daryl Somers, Frank Woodley, Julie Anthony, and many more.

Recent credits include singing and dancing her way around Australia with Good Morning Vietnam and Candy Shop Show. As a director and choreographer, her recent work includes Xanadu, The World Goes ‘Round, and Little Shop of Horrors at the CQU Conservatorium in Mackay.

She has also worked on Queensland school tours with Perform Educational Musicals and National Theatre for Children, as well as on the Australian and New Zealand tours of Menopause the Musical and Spamalot (choreography), Jesus Christ Superstar, and The Ultimate ABBA Experience at Twelfth Night Theatre.

Best known for his viral web series Beautiful Brisbane, David Lawrence (he/him) is a Brisbane-based writer, filmmaker, and production designer. Under his brand, Faux Facade, he has created unique visual worlds through digital video and physical construction. His technicolour surrealist film work includes Deep Probe 7, Hypermarket Heroes, Square Eyes, and Say No to Craft.

David’s scenic design credits include Boy & Girl (Oscar Production Company), Two Man Tarantino (Christopher Wayne & Brisbane Powerhouse), Jesus Christ Superstar (Lynch and Paterson), and Les Misérables (Lynch and Paterson).

Mina Aanat

Minola McKnight

Mina (she/her) is a passionate musical theatre performer who, for the past 19 years, has trained in a range of dance styles including musical theatre, tap, jazz, ballet, pointe, heels, hip hop, contemporary, commercial, and lyrical. Through this passion, she has gone on to teach a variety of classes across these styles.

From an early age, Mina developed a deep love for dance but found that musical theatre was where she felt most at home. This led her to begin regular voice lessons and attend a range of acting schools across Brisbane’s north side over the past 10 years.

Last year, Mina was fortunate enough to appear in the new and rising Sports Starz YouTube series as Eddie. Over the years, she has performed in numerous productions including Chicago (June), High School Musical 2 (Gabriella), The Wizard of Oz (Dorothy), Hairspray (Little Inez), and many more.

Carly (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist skilled in song and storytelling. Since making her professional debut as Dorothy in the Australian tour of The Wizard of Oz Arena Spectacular, she has appeared on TV shows Joe vs. Carole and Young Rock, worked as a backing vocalist with musician Vancouver Sleep Clinic, and seen her work as a fibre artist under the name From Carly B gain international popularity online.

She holds a Diploma and Certificate IV in Musical Theatre and is delighted to be part of the company of Parade. She would like to thank her husband Elijah for his endless encouragement and support.

Chris (he/him) is a Redlands-based singer and actor whose versatile career spans musical theatre, rock, metal, pop, operetta, and a cappella. Known for his powerful vocals and dynamic stage presence, he has toured Queensland and NSW with Good Morning Vietnam – Music from the Vietnam War Era and is a featured vocalist in Hal & Bacharach – The Hit Makers.

Originally from Newcastle, Chris developed his stagecraft as frontman for rock bands Bowser and Unleashed, supporting acts such as INXS, The Cure, and Midnight Oil. His professional theatre debut was as Tommy in Tommy with Hunter Valley Theatre Company. He later toured nationally in Deep Bells Ring, leading to his inclusion in Opera Queensland’s Young Artist Program, where he performed in more than 40 productions and tours.

Chris has also appeared regularly with the Queensland Pops Orchestra and as a member of vocal quartet La Capella. Musical theatre credits include Raoul/Phantom understudy in Phantom of the Opera, Vic Christian in Closer to Heaven, Jean Valjean in Les Misérables, Danny in Xanadu, and roles in Chicago, Cabaret, and Fiddler on the Roof.

He received acclaim for his work in Macbeth – The Contemporary Rock Opera, and starred in I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change! He also wrote and performed An Australian Tribute to an American Sweetheart, a cabaret about Nelson Eddy.

Television credits include Police Rescue, Home and Away, and Big Sky.

Nicole (she/her) is a versatile performer and passionate arts educator who began her journey in Perth before relocating to Victoria to study at the University of Ballarat Arts Academy. She graduated in 2015 with credits including Urinetown, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, and the title role in Thoroughly Modern Millie.

After graduating, she toured nationally with Alpha Shows in educational theatre and collaborated on workshops developing new Australian works. While based in Melbourne, she appeared in acclaimed productions such as Wicked, Beauty and the Beast, Heathers, Les Misérables, and toured nationally in The Sound of Music.

Now based in Queensland, Nicole has been active in the local arts community with credits including Mamma Mia (The Show Co), Legally Blonde (Mad About Theatre), and High School Musical (Vargo Studios). Sunshine Coast highlights include The Boy From Oz, Pirates of Penzance, A Chorus Line, 9 to 5, and We Will Rock You.

Most recently, she featured in the Australian premiere of Lil’ Elvis Jones and the Truckstoppers, a collaboration between Mad About Theatre, The Writers Republic, and Brisbane Powerhouse.

Nicole is also a dedicated performing arts educator, mentoring students aged 2 to 75. She is thrilled to make her debut with Bump In Productions and share this thought-provoking piece with Brisbane audiences.

Originally from Sydney, Belinda (she/her) graduated from Wollongong University with a Bachelor of Creative Arts in Theatre Performance. She also completed a Certificate V in Dance at Brent Street Studios.

Her extensive list of credits includes Kate Murphy in the original Australian production of Titanic – The Musical (Theatre Royal, Sydney), Mae Coleman in Reefer Madness (Squabbalogic), Rebecca in Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens (Seymour Centre), Eve in Children of Eden (MTOL), and Kim in Bye Bye Birdie (MMS).

Belinda met her husband, Michael, in the original Australian production of Urinetown – The Musical (Bump In Productions). In 2014, she was cast in the best role of all—an open-ended run as mother to two beautiful girls, Isabelle and Claudine.

Michael Lewis (he/him) has been performing in musical theatre for as long as he can remember. Over the years, he has had the privilege of playing many of his dream roles, including John Wilkes Booth in Assassins, Carl Magnus in A Little Night Music, Bobby Strong in Urinetown, Lieutenant Cioffi in Curtains, Elliot Garfield in The Goodbye Girl, Lancelot in Camelot, Tony in West Side Story, and Pseudolus in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, to name a few.

It was during Urinetown that Michael first met his future wife, Belinda—though it would be nearly 20 years before they finally shared the stage again, this time as the Beast and Belle in QMT’s 2021 production of Beauty and the Beast.

When he’s not treading the boards, Michael works as a Specialist Prosthodontist in Spring Hill and serves as an Adjunct Clinical Professor at Central Queensland University.

Frankie Epps

Casey Martin (he/him) is a versatile Australian performer based in Brisbane. He holds a Bachelor of Musical Theatre from the Queensland Academy of Excellence in Musical Theatre (formerly Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University).

Most recently, Casey appeared as a featured vocalist in A Night at the Musicals (2025) and as a swing in Universal Monsters Live Rock and Roll Show and Sing On Tour at Universal Studios Japan (2020–2024). His extensive resume also includes featured roles in Dreaming Up, Electrical Parade Dream Lights, and Fantasmic at Tokyo Disney Resort (2018–2019).

In 2019, he portrayed the role of Professor in Yank: A WWII Musical (Woodward Productions). Originally from the Central Coast, Queensland, Casey is committed to bringing heart, humour, and artistry to every role he plays.

Paige (she/her) graduated with a Bachelor of Musical Theatre from the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University in 2018. Her performance highlights include Milly in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Amy in Little Women – The Broadway Musical (directed by Pip Mushin), and a featured performer in Godspell, which toured Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne.

She has appeared as a guest soloist in Broadway and Beyond with Teddy Tahu Rhodes, and Broadway to Screen with Mirusia Louwerse and the Queensland Pops Orchestra at QPAC. Paige was also involved in the creative development of Fangirls with Queensland Theatre Company and Lil’ Elvis Jones & The Truckstoppers.

Her additional credits include touring nationally in Margaret Fulton: The Musical, performing as a Diva in Priscilla! Queen of the Desert, appearing in the Australian premiere of Islander – The Musical, and singing as a vocalist in A Night at the Musicals.

Matthew (he/him) has over 15 years of international experience in the performing arts. After training with the Jamaica Musical Theatre Company, he performed in five major musicals in the Caribbean—including Beauty and the Beast, Cats, and Dreamgirls—as well as several concert series.

In the past four years, Matthew has played prominent roles in Gold Coast theatre, including Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Little Shop of Horrors, Jekyll and Hyde: The Musical, Hair, and others. Most recently, he played the beloved role of Sebastian in The Little Mermaid (Brisbane), which earned him the award for Best Lead Actor in a Musical in Southeast Queensland.

In addition to his theatrical work, Matthew has completed extensive studies in the behavioural sciences, holding a bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD in Psychology. He is a firm believer in the science of performance psychology and its role in creating meaningful art.

Some of David’s (he/him) previous roles include Mr Banks in Mary Poppins, Patsy in Spamalot, Igor in Young Frankenstein, Bill in Mamma Mia, Freddy in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Franz Liebkind in The Producers, and Colonel Pickering in My Fair Lady. He has received vocal training under Emma Wilson.

By day, David works as a 3D Visual Artist.

Jay Monck (they/them) is a recent graduate of the Queensland Academy of Excellence in Musical Theatre, where they completed their Bachelor’s degree. During their studies, they had the honour of portraying Kyle in Legally Blonde as part of their graduate production.

Jay also holds a Diploma of Musical Theatre from Sydney’s prestigious Brent Street Studios and brings over 20 years of experience in dance and theatre. They are thrilled to be joining the cast of Bump In’s Parade.

Lucy Ross (she/they) holds a Bachelor of Arts (Music Theatre) from the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts and has enjoyed a vibrant and varied acting career to date. She has appeared in musicals such as Firebringer, Heathers, Anyone Can Whistle, We Will Rock You, and The Mystery of Edwin Drood, as well as plays including Twelfth Night and Death Pretzel.

Lucy is also an emerging music director, with recent credits including The Wizard of Oz and Seussical, both produced by Stage School Australia. She relishes the opportunity to work on new Australian works—most notably Alice’s Adventures (Queen of Hearts), and the recent development of Death to a Butterfly with Antipodes Theatre Company. She has also been a collaborator for the Antipodes Winter Lab in 2023 and 2024.

Ashton Simpson (he/him) is an ambitious UK-born, Gold Coast-based actor represented by Williams Management, with a strong foundation in both theatre and screen performance. He has starred in numerous short film productions currently submitted to festivals such as St Kilda and the Gold Coast Film Festival.

Trained in the Meisner technique at The Actors Pulse, Ashton brings focus, versatility, and emotional truth to every role. Known for his creativity and dedication, he is also a singer and music producer, and maintains an active lifestyle as an athlete with a passion for salsa and other expressive art forms.

Mabel (she/her) made her professional debut at age nine in Cameron Mackintosh’s international touring production of Les Misérables, followed soon after by a credited role in Aquaman. Since then, she has featured in productions with Opera Queensland (3 Marys), the Queensland Conservatorium of Music (Street Scene), as well as a range of other theatre, feature, and short film projects.

Mabel trains in singing, dancing, and acting, and hopes to pursue musical theatre at a tertiary level following Year 12.

Alex (he/him) is a passionate storyteller and self-proclaimed pocket rocket, graduating in 2018 with a Bachelor of Musical Theatre from the Queensland Conservatorium (QAEMT).

Audiences have seen Alex in a variety of dynamic roles, including Carmen Ghia in The Producers (Altitude Theatre), earning widespread critical acclaim; Eddie in Mamma Mia (MWE); Laurence in Mamma Mia (The Show Co); Felicia and Miss Understanding in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (RMT and MWE respectively); Charley Kringas in Merrily We Roll Along (Ad Astra); and W.C. Moore in the Australian premiere of Lil’ Elvis Jones & the Truckstoppers (Mad About Theatre). He has also appeared as a vocalist and quartet tenor in The Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols (The Little Red Co.).

Off the stage, Alex can be heard as Martin in the album recording of David Young’s The Beauty Spot, available on Spotify.

In addition to performing, Alex is a director for A Night at the Musicals and The Broadway Mixer. As a proud Brisbane-based artist, he is deeply committed to nurturing and championing the vibrant local arts scene.

Chris White (he/him) is a Queensland-based actor, singer, and presenter working extensively across the live performance industry.

He most recently completed a world tour playing Bandit in Bluey’s Big Play (HVK), performing across the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. He also appeared as Lucky’s Dad in the televised special, which premiered on ABC in 2025.

Chris was previously a member of Hi-5 and performed in the male ensemble for Adele’s world tour. He has also performed for Prince Charles and collaborated on children’s content with the Yellow Wiggle, Greg Page.

Television credits include Nautilus (Disney+) and Team Rescue (ABC Kids). Stage highlights include The Pirates of Penzance (Essgee), Johnny Casino in Grease: The Arena Experience, Roger in RENT, Chris in Miss Saigon, Ken in Barbie: Anything is Possible (Dubai), Sky in Mamma Mia!, and roles in the development of State of Origin: The Musical and Julie (QPAC).

Chris holds a Bachelor of Music (Musical Theatre) from the Queensland Conservatorium and a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Theatre) from USQ.

Beau Wykes (they/them) is a dynamic musical theatre performer from Meanjin (Brisbane). Since graduating from the Queensland Academy of Excellence in Musical Theatre in 2021, Beau has performed in an array of professional shows and concerts—and even briefly joined the circus!

Notably, Beau originated the role of Dr. Heiter in The Human Centipede Parody Musical (Synergy Productions, 2023). Other credits include King George III in A Night with the Villains (Miraball Productions, 2024), Mr. Toad in The Wind in the Willows (RAVA Productions, 2022), and ensemble in Priscilla Queen of the Desert: The Musical (Matt Ward Productions, 2022). Beau also performed as the baritone in the quartet at The Lord Mayor’s Senior Christmas Concert (Epiphany Productions, 2024).

Beau takes great pride in being a queer and neurodiverse performer and especially enjoys developing new work and telling authentic stories. They would like to thank Bump In Productions for the opportunity to be part of such a moving show.
